The First Note

 

Elementary Music @ Mather is the first step in music education at  Munising.  Students learn how to play and read music from Kindergarten to 4th grade culminating in 5th grade Recorder Karate Method.  The elementary learning process is based off  the Quaver Music Curriculum, integrating music and technology.

Something Different

 

Students at the middle/high school can try their hand at extracurricular offerings such as:​

  • Jazz Band

  • Solo and Ensemble

Middle Schoolers can even perform at pep band games with the high school if they want!

Play On

 

The band program at Munising starts in 6th grade and students have the opportunity to continue through high school.  Students are fitted for instruments at the end of 5th grade to start the following year.  Students are expected to perform at regularly scheduled concerts, band festival, community events including in collaboration with the Community Band.

About Mrs. Gaunt

 

Mrs. Michelle Gaunt has been teaching all levels of music throughout Michigan and in North Dakota since August of 2011.  A graduate of Marquette Senior High School (2006), Northern Michigan University (2010; BME), and Grand Canyon University (2022; Masters Elementary Reading), Mrs. Gaunt is thrilled to be in the UP working in one of the most beautiful towns with many wonderful students.  Mrs. Gaunt is a trumpet player and mezzo soprano vocalist and has performed with the Marquette City Band, Peter Jonas Community Band, Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Ironwood Chamber Singers, Williston (ND) Symphony Orchestra as well as private performances for weddings and various places of worship.  In addition to conducting the ensembles at Munising Public Schools, Mrs. Gaunt is the director of the Munising Vanguards male chorus, a member of the Peter Jonas Community Band, and a POUND fitness instructor.
