Boy Playing Trombone
Beginning Band

Beginning band is a class for all beginning instrumental musicians. Beginning band teaches students to

properly handle instruments while enhancing skills in team building, tone production, ear training,

music reading and notation in addition to performing at scheduled concerts. Students will have the

option to start on one of the following instruments:

• Flute

• Oboe

• Clarinet

• Alto Saxophone

• French Horn

• Trumpet

• Trombone

• Baritone

• Tuba

• Percussion (Mallet & Snare)

Middle School Band    

Middle School Band is for all instrumental musicians.  At least one year of experience in band is required or director’s approval is required to take this class.  Students will continue to build upon skills learned in 6th grade band with students becoming more familiar with and developing skills regarding major scales, sight reading, music theory, ear training.  Repertoire will consist of selections from their books as well as a variety of classical and popular music.  Students will perform regularly at scheduled concerts, band & orchestra festival and will have the opportunity to perform at solo and ensemble (for an additional cost).

Wedding Band
  Concert Band    

Concert Band is for all instrumental musicians.  At least one year of experience in band is required or director’s approval is required to take this class.  Students will continue to build upon skills learned in Middle School Band with an emphasis on major/minor scales, sight reading, music theory, ear training.  Repertoire will consist of selections of standard band selections and popular music.  Students in this course are expected to perform in marching band at football games in the fall (with the exception of varsity cheer and football members), pep band at basketball games, regularly scheduled concerts, band & orchestra festival and parades.  Additionally students will have the opportunity to perform at solo and ensemble (for an additional cost).

  Concert Choir   

Concert Choir is a chorus for everyone.  Concert Choir is a chorus of mixed male and female voices of any experience level.  Emphasis is on correct vocal performance techniques, tone production, pitch matching, multiple-part singing, music theory, and sight singing techniques.  Repertoire includes traditional and classical art songs as well as musical theatre, pop, and a capella singing.  Students will perform regularly at scheduled concerts and any additional community events TBD.

As of the 2021-2022 school year, Concert Choir is no longer offered as a class.

Summer Music Performance
  Jazz Band    

Jazz Band is an after school extracurricular that meets Mondays 3:15-4:30 and Tuesdays 3:15-4:00 in the band room.  It is open to all students in grades 7-12.  We will be participating in the same concerts as the high school/middle school ensembles and also perform at additional places including the NMU Jazz Festival in March.
