Mather Elementary Music
Students at Mather Elementary meet once a week for 40 minutes for music class. Students learn singing techniques, rhythm, how to read and transcribe music, how to play small percussion instruments, and how to listen to music. Students in grades K-5 use the Essential Elements Music Class for their curriculum.
Students in 5th grade learn recorders through an adapted version of Recorder Karate, which allows students to progress and earn "belts" at their own pace. Recorders are used as an introduction for future study in instrumental music and the expectations that go along with playing an instrument. We start recorder instruction in January of each school year.

All students will participate in two concerts per year; one in winter and one in spring so they can truly gain the concert experience.
